Charles Jay Taylor

(1955-1929)

Charles Jay Taylor was born in New York in 1855.  He studied law at Columbia University, then art at the Art Students League, the National Academy of Design (with Eastman Johnson) and City College of New York, as well as in London and Paris. 

He contributed illustrations to the New York's Daily Graphic and magazines like HarpersPuck and Punch.  His book 'Taylor Girls' gained him international acclaim.  In 1911, he became an art professor at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh where his paintings were exhibited at JJ Gillespie Gallery.  Charles J. Taylor died in 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
